PORT ADELAIDE recorded its seventh win of the season, with a gutsy 14-point victory over Richmond on Friday night.

A seven-goal-to-two second quarter set up the game for the home side, and it was enough to hold on against the reigning premiers.

This is what the media had to say…

The team

“The win was set up in the second quarter, when Port Adelaide kicked seven of the last eight goals to surge into an eventually insurmountable lead.” - Max Laughton

“Port’s seven-goal second quarter didn’t make a season but won the game by 14 points and showed it can go with a premiership outfit.” - Richard Earle

“The Power booted seven goals to two in the second quarter to set up their seventh win of the year.” - Lee Gaskin

“Less than a week after revealing its most-inconsistent face in a three-point defeat to Hawthorn, the Power defied AFL premiers Richmond by 14 points at Adelaide Oval in Friday Night Football.” - Michelangelo Rucci

Ollie Wines

“Out-of-contract midfielder Ollie Wines showed why the Power are so keen for his signature with a brilliant performance with 29 disposals (16 contested) 12 tackles, 10 inside 50s and seven clearances, receiving great support from bash brother Sam Powell-Pepper.” - Lee Gaskin

“Reputation is enhanced depending on the opposition and Wines was in the middle of everything against the might of Richmond’s pressure on Friday night.

“…he’s a bull at the contest and he willed his way to be the game leader in ground taken.” - Mark Robinson

Chad Wingard

“The Power's decision to throw enigmatic forward Chad Wingard into the midfield was a masterstroke, the two-time All Australian sparking to life with a game-high 31 disposals.” - Lee Gaskin

“… the star responded to his critics with a strong performance against Richmond. On Friday night he spent more time in the midfield and got the confidence-boosting opening clearance of the contest.

“He finished with 31 disposals, seven clearances and eight tackles, but importantly stood up when the game was there to be won in the fourth quarter.” - Marcus Wilson

“Chad Wingard had a point to prove entering the game with nine tackles and 11 goals for the season attracting internal focus at Alberton but responded with 31 touches.

“Wingard, superb between midfield and attack, had three touches in the first minute.” - Richard Earle

Justin Westhoff

“Westhoff, 31, is like a bottle of Grange, ageing with distinction.” - Richard Earle

“Westhoff was close to best on ground in the first half with 16 disposals and three goals.” - Lee Gaskin

“It was vintage Justin Westhoff when Port Adelaide was feeling the heat, collecting 11 possessions and a goal in the first quarter.

“He was proving a real headache for Richmond with his mobility and versatility around the ground.” - Marcus Wilson
