AHEAD of their meeting in Round 14 of the 2018 AFL Premiership Season we thought we would look back at one of our favourite clashes between Port Adelaide and Melbourne.

The Power went into the Round 17 game in 2012 on the back of five straight losses in one of the leanest spells in the club’s history.

The Demons hadn’t won in three games either but they started well, booting five goals to two in the first quarter with young Port Jasper Pittard subbed off and taken to hospital with rib damage.

In his absence, the Power defence, led by Alipate Carlile, stood tall as the visitors slowly got themselves back into the game.

The Demons were kept scoreless for the entire second term until Brad Green kicked a point after the siren.

In all, the Power outscored Melbourne 10.7 to 3.8 after quarter time as Travis Boak and Dom Cassisi started to dominate the midfield.

Up forward Paul Stewart was in irresistible form, booting a career-high five goals to be his side’s only multiple goal-scorer on the day.

Demon Jeremy Howe took a mark of the year contender but the damage was done and the Power had ended its five-game losing streak.

It was to be the final win for Port Adelaide under coach Matthew Primus.

After losses to Fremantle and GWS in the next fortnight, Primus was told he would not be offered another contract and he stood down immediately.
