MORE Carlton players received votes from the AFL coaches than Port Adelaide players, despite the Power winning at the MCG on Saturday.

Chad Wingard and Justin Westhoff were Port’s only vote-getters in the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year Award after the 21-point victory.

Wingard was given five votes for his starring performance in the midfield.

He had 24 touches, four clearances, six tackles, five inside 50s, and two goals in a brilliant all-round performance.

Westhoff played a valuable forward role, racking up 19 touches – 10 of them contested.

He also had six marks, seven hit-outs, six rebound 50s, four tackles and two goals.

That performance was rewarded with four votes from the coaches.

Carlton’s 300-gamer Kade Simpson was awarded a perfect ten votes for his game-high 37 disposals, while his high-flying teammate Charlie Curnow was given seven votes after booting four goals.

The only other player to poll from the game was midfielder Patrick Cripps, who received four votes – enough to see him rise to the top of the overall leaderboard by one vote over Fremantle’s Nat Fyfe.

Simpson (Carlton), Jack Riewoldt (Richmond), Callan Ward (GWS), Max Gawn (Melbourne) and Orazio Fantasia (Essendon) all received the maximum 10 votes from the AFL coaches for Round 15.

Despite a 50-disposal performance, Hawthorn’s Tom Mitchell received just eight votes to move himself into outright third in the voting behind Cripps and Fyfe, while Melbourne’s Gawn is in fourth, five votes off the lead.
