PORT ADELAIDE was not able to conjure up a SANFL win in captain Steven Summerton’s final home game, going down to Central District by 22 points on Sunday afternoon.

Windy conditions saw much of the scoring at one end with momentum swings throughout.

Monyjath Makoi, making his league debut for the Magpies, was in the thick of the action early with the Bulldogs making the most of the breeze favouring the Tim Evans end.

They booted six goals straight to 1.3 in the opening term with the Magpies lone goal coming through a smart snap by Michael Ortiz – his first major in league football.

The small forward sparked his side into action in the second quarter with his second goal of the day after reacting fastest to run into an open goal.

It started a run of three straight to the Magpies with Jake Patmore booting back to back majors.

Sam Powell-Pepper and skipper Summerton, playing in his last home game after announcing his retirement mid-week, were productive in the midfield and by half time the home side had closed to within eleven points.

With the wind causing all sorts of problems at the Scott Hodges end, Lindsay Thomas had two set shots inside the first few minutes of the third term, only to see one sail out on the full and the other drop short.

Patmore found another after marking strongly 30 metres out before Thomas finally got his first from a tricky angle after a free kick in a marking contest.

But for all their effort into the breeze, the Magpies fell further behind to trail by 24 points at the final change.

The Dogs stretched the lead to 30 by slotting the first major of the last term but in customary Port Adelaide fashion, the Magpies fought back.

Two classy goals to youngster Harrison Morgan, in just his fifth game, and a long bomb by Billy Frampton, after marking on 50, had them within ten points.

Summerton went forward late and had one shot on goal, which faded for a behind.

But his side's run proved to be too late with goals to Jackson Hately and Nick Gillard, after the final siren, killing the momentum and leaving the Magpies 22-points short at the final siren.
