FOUR Port Adelaide players have undergone surgery and one is booked in for an operation this week as they enter the post-season.

Midfielder Tom Rockliff has had a successful shoulder reconstruction on his left shoulder. He is expected to be back running in time for pre-season training in November before returning to full-contact training early in the new year.

Forward Jack Watts had a minor clean-up of his right ankle which is not expected to impact his off-season.

Defender Riley Bonner had minor surgery to remove a bone spur on his left foot and midfielder Karl Amon underwent surgery to correct a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee after experiencing recurrent soreness but both are expected to be able to return to running in time for pre-season training.

Head of high performance Ian McKeown said Robbie Gray is also booked in for surgery.

“Robbie will have a clean-out of his right knee this week,” he said.

“It is expected that Robbie’s surgery is unlikely to have a significant impact on his off-season program and he will be able to resume pre-season training with the rest of the team in November.”

Of those who are in rehabilitation, first-year defender Joel Garner has resumed running after shoulder surgery, forward Todd Marshall is expected to be running again within a fortnight and they, along with Willem Drew, Matthew Broadbent and Tom Clurey, are expected to join pre-season training in November.

“The guys are all tracking along well as planned,” McKeown said.

“With Joel, Willem and Matthew in particular we wanted to give them the best possible opportunity to rehabilitate and have them in optimal condition for pre-season and beyond.

“The rest will give Todd and Tom’s injuries time to settle and they will be up and running in November.”

Forward Charlie Dixon is expected to have a delayed start to pre-season training but is recovering well from surgery earlier this month on a fractured leg.

Ruckman Sam Hayes is expected to start running again in the next fortnight while Hamish Hartlett is on track to undertake most of the pre-season training after making good progress from his knee reconstruction.
