PORT ADELAIDE has farewelled Jack Hombsch after he was traded to the Gold Coast in a deal which sees the club receive a 2019 fourth round draft pick.

Hombsch, 25, has played 98 games since making his debut in 2012 for Greater Western Sydney.

Originally part of the Giants’ inaugural list, the Roxby Downs and Rostrevor College product was a member of the AFL Players’ Association’s 22under22 team in 2015, after being traded to Port Adelaide ahead of the 2013 season.

Renowned for his work in the community, particularly with people with disabilities, Hombsch is a three-time winner of Port Adelaide’s John McCarthy Award for community service as well as winning the AFL’s Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award in 2017.

General Manager – Football, Chris Davies said Hombsch was a much-loved member of the Port Adelaide family and he thanked him for his contribution to the club.

“Jack is a quality person who has been great for the culture of Port Adelaide,” he said.

“It’s a difficult part of the AFL industry that sometimes you have to say goodbye to good people.

“Jack is a solid and experienced defender but we have a few key position options who are in front of him at the moment which has limited his opportunities.

“We understand his want to play regularly at AFL level and we wish him all the best with the Suns.”
