THE Port Club is teaming up with Foodbank to help those less fortunate this Christmas with a Reverse Advent Calendar initiative now in place.

As many count down to Christmas and receive gifts from loved ones, the Port Club is asking for donations of non-perishable food until Thursday 5 December to provide to those who need it most.

Last financial year alone, Foodbank South Australia provided enough food for more than 5 million meals, providing food relief to 117,260 South Australians every month.

More than one-third of these were children.
Foodbank SA supplies food to more than 550 welfare agencies and community groups, and works with over 400 schools across Adelaide’s metro, regional and country areas.

The organisation has found that tough circumstances can happen to anyone and that the “bludging” stereotype just isn’t true. In reality, those going hungry in our community are male, female, young and old, single and in families, students, employed, unemployed and retired people.

Foodbank SA relies on the support of a large network of volunteers and the community to put food on the table of vulnerable South Australians who would otherwise go without.

At the conclusion of the donation period, the CEO of Foodbank, Greg Pattinson will then be at the Port Club for Talking Footy to accept the donations made by members and the Port Adelaide community.

A black ‘cage’ has been set up in the Sports Bar area where donations can be placed.

The Port Adelaide Football Club encourages everyone to take a moment this Festive Season to think of others in need.

The Port Club is located on Queen St, Alberton.
