JARED POLEC has become the third Port Adelaide player to win a weekly vote for the AFL’s Goal of the Year.

Polec was nominated for the Round 13 Coates Hire ‘Goal of the Year’ for his brilliant kick from the boundary in Port's win over the Western Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval.

He received a handball from Travis Boak just outside the 50-metre arc, ran to 40m on the boundary and slotted a drop punt to give Port a four-goal lead in the third quarter.

The former Lion kicked a very similar goal in the first quarter, but it was his effort in the second half that really got the fans out of their seats.

Polec received 44.5% of the vote, edging out St Kilda’s Jade Gresham (31.7%) and Fremantle’s Nat Fyfe (23.8%).

Polec joins Sam Powell-Pepper and Steven Motlop in the running for the goal of the year, to be announced at the Brownlow Medal count later in the year.
