PORT ADELAIDE'S development of its Next Gen Academy program is in full swing, with the club's new Maitland Academy commencing this week.

The 'hub' is an offshoot of the club's metropolitan Multicultural and Indigenous Academy, which operates fortnightly at Alberton Oval.

Established as part of the AFL's new Next Generation Academy structure, the program is focussed on developing players of African and Asian descent, and Aboriginal players from specific zones in South Australia.

The club will implement and run academies for talented female players and elite youth as well as a father/son program.
