ASPEN and Tien are two Golden Grove High School students who have participated in the Empowering Youth program during term two.

The program is a wellbeing and resilience program that provides children from Defence Force families the skills and knowledge necessary to get through the often disruptive nature of moving around Australia and the world as part of their parents' work.

As part of the program, Aspen and Tien worked with the Power's community team and Port Adelaide players to learn how to adapt to challenges.

Billy Frampton, a West Australian who moved to the Power when drafted last year, worked with Aspen and Tien as part of the program and spoke about his personal experience overcoming injury setbacks as well as life in a new city.

Aspen has been to five schools as a result of her family's postings - twice moving to Tasmania, three times within New South Wales and currently to South Australia. She will move again in August.

"Having Billy come along and speak to us showed the similar experiences that players share with me," Aspen said.

"I also learnt that when I face tough times I can stay calm and change my thinking to focus on the positives."

Tien is a year nine student at Golden Grove, and has lived in Melbourne, Darwin, Wagga, Wodonga and now SA - Golden Grove is his sixth school.

"It was great to have a look at the different character strengths and the meaning of each to help us work out our top strengths and the different ways we can use them," Tien says.

"I learnt that the Port Adelaide players share very similar experiences to me and it was good to hear the different ways they approach challenging times."
