The Club hosted its first Business Lunch in Sydney on the Friday prior to the game against GWS at the exclusive and well-appointed Ivy Ballroom.

Hosted by Club Chairman David Koch and members of the Club’s newly-formed Eastern Seaboard Advisory Group; the event was attended by key stakeholders from Government, the Sydney business community and the Club’s Sydney-based Corporate Partner community.

These included News Limited CEO Kim Williams, NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell, former FFA Chief Executive Ben Buckley, Renault Australia CEO Justin Hocevar and V.I.P. Home Services Chairman Bill Vis.

This event was used as an opportunity to profile its major partners – Renault & V.I.P. – to key Sydney corporate businesses; however as importantly it was a vehicle to promote the outstanding work the Club undertakes in the community landscape. The Aboriginal Engagement Officer – Paul Vandenbergh – provided a fantastic overview of the Club’s activities in the Indigenous space, which is an area the Club takes great pride in at being at the forefront of.

Featured at the event were also two entertaining panel discussions; with the first featuring new Club games record-holder Kane Cornes, former Power player turned-Giant and brother Chad Cornes & Club High-Performance Manager Darren Burgess. The other featured a lively discussion between the two opposing coaches – Kevin Sheedy & Ken Hinkley – as to how they would approach the match.

The underlying theme of the lunch was the Club’s push for an increased level of exposure nationally, something that continues to be a key focus for the new Chairman. “As the Club continues to build its presence across Australia we've got to become a brand that is relevant nationally," Koch said.

"We've got to build the networks but we also have to build a brand that is relevant to the broad AFL community."
