KEN HINKLEY and his deputies will be the keynote speakers at the upcoming AFL National Coaching Conference to be held at the Adelaide Oval.

Around 500 coaches from across Australia will convene on the new AFL home ground of the Port Adelaide Football Club on War Memorial Drive to hear from the best brains in the business and to develop their own skills as coaches of local and state-level clubs.

Joining Hinkley among the keynote speakers will be the Power's high performance manager Darren Burgess, club chairman David Koch and former Opals coach and Port Adelaide leadership consultant Jan Stirling.

Port Adelaide assistant coaches Josh Carr and Tyson Edwards will also present to coaches during the day.

Hinkley told The Advertiser he can relate to the many grassroots coaches who will be in attendance on the day, having previously coached at local level with the Mortlake, Camperdown and Bell Park football clubs in Victoria.

I'm looking forward to it and I appreciate what all those coaches are going through because I've pretty much been at every level and understand what it's like," said Hinkley.

"Through coaching in the country, being an assistant coach and now a senior coach I have a good understanding of the challenges at every level.

"I think the [national coaching conference] is a fantastic idea and I know how much it would have helped me if they were around when I was starting out.

"We had our level one and level two courses but nothing like this. It would have been really useful."

The conference commences on Friday night and concludes on Sunday.
