SPREAD the word – Foodbank SA has a Vegemite shortage and they’re calling on Port Adelaide fans for help!

Supply for Foodbank’s School Breakfast Program can’t keep up with demand, and Vegemite is one of the key items Foodbank supplies to ensure kids don’t go to school hungry.

The club is urging supporters to bring a jar of Vegemite along to the game on Saturday night to donate to Foodbank to help end Foodbank’s shortage.

Foodbank’s School Breakfast Program, which is delivered to 270 schools state-wide, addresses the issue that one in seven school children goes to school hungry, affecting a child’s ability to concentrate, to learn and to achieve.

“Vegemite is part of everything Australia and unfortunately even with all the support from our regular donors we can’t keep up our stocks for our School Breakfast Program,” Foodbank SA CEO Greg Pattinson said.

“We would love to see these schoolchildren having their Vegemite sandwiches but to do this we need further help.”

Port Adelaide CEO Keith Thomas praised Foodbank for the work they do in the South Australian community.

“Port Adelaide is incredibly proud to have Foodbank as our club’s major charity partner. The work Foodbank do in the community to feed South Australians who are less fortunate than others is outstanding and we are delighted to be able to assist wherever we can,” Mr Thomas said.

“First and foremost we are a community club so our values align very closely to that of Foodbank and together we are striving to end hunger in South Australia.

“On Saturday night we urge as many of our supporters as possible to donate a jar of Vegemite at our game against Sydney to help with the current shortage being experienced. It is imperative that all kids have an opportunity to start their day with breakfast and I know the Port Adelaide community will assist where they can.”

Foodbank volunteers will be collecting jars prior to the Port Adelaide vs Sydney game in the Southern Plaza at Adelaide Oval. An alternative drop off points is Foodbank’s warehouse at 377A Cross Rd Edwardstown.
