OLLIE WINES has had his left shoulder reconstructed and is out of hospital.

The best news? He's OK.

Still sore, and needing painkillers to get him through the next three days, Wines is already looking forward to getting out of his sling.

In the meantime, his mum, and housemate Cam O'Shea have been given the short-term task of helping nurse the big-bodied midfielder back to full health.

It just means putting up with 'Fridge's' cooking.

DRAFT 2016: Future picks can be traded

"I couldn't be more happy with where I'm at at the moment," Wines told portadelaidefc.com.au at his home on Thursday.

"I'm past the surgery and I'm not in too much pain - I'm dosed up on plenty of painkillers at the moment and this first 72 hours is probably the hardest bit to get through.

"From there I'll give the painkillers the flick and work on getting back to normal."

The surgery itself was quite routine for the Sportsmed surgeons, putting Wines in a good position to begin his rehab straight away.

That involves around two months in a sling before he returns to the track.

If his progress remains on track, he will hit the ground running for the start of the Power's 2016 pre-season campaign.

"The surgeon was pretty thrilled, it was basic surgery for him and he said it all went to plan," Wines said.

"He'll see me in a week or two just to get it check it out again, I think we're on the right path.

"What i know of the injury, you get six weeks in the sling and then after 8-10 weeks you're back to running.

"I won't be back to full contact until after Christmas, but I'll be doing all the running."

Mentally, Wines is already keen to get back to the club.

While he won't be involved on the field, he is enthusiastic about providing support to his active teammates as they play through the final weeks of August and September as Port Adelaide hunts finals berths in both the AFL and SANFL.

"It's the second injury I've had this year, but I got to learn what I can do around the club when injured last time," Wines said.

"I'll help out the younger blokes around the club as I'm recovering."
