JUST about nobody is called by their real name at a footy club.

Everyone has a nickname, whether it’s an alter ego, a reference to an embarrassing story - or if someone found out what your mum called you as a kid...

More often than not, in true Aussie style it’s just an extension of your surname – as is the case for Homma (Jack Hombsch), Brogsy (Matt Broadbent) and Cluzza (Tom Clurey).

But the best ones have a bit more meaning behind them…

Sam 'Muffins' Colquhoun
So the story goes, Sammy Colquhoun took a whole tray of muffins back to his hotel room during an away game trip, with the intention of devouring them all - before being told they were supposed to feed the whole team. The man is a muffin fanatic. He loves muffins so much, he’s even got one tattooed on his upper leg!

Ollie 'Bull' Wines
The two-time Gavin Wanganeen Medallist is referred to as ‘Bull’ around the club for pretty obvious reasons – his fierce, attacking playing style and stocky build. Also fondly known as ‘Wal’, ‘Wally’, or or even ‘Quadzilla’ within footy circles.

Alipate 'Bobby' Carlile
When Fijian born Alipate Carlile joined the club, a number of the boys didn't know how to pronounce his first name. So they went with something much simpler - Bob. Affectionately extended to ‘Bobby’, somehow it stuck…and just about nobody calls him Alipate anymore.

Jesse 'Chooka' Palmer
‘Palmer’ sounds like ‘parmy’, ie the favourite Aussie pub meal chicken parmy. Hence, ‘Chooka’.

Brad 'Treats' Ebert
He just loves treats! Lollies, biscuits, chocolate - you name it. You’ll often catch him dipping into the staff candy jar at the club…

Robbie 'Gricky' Gray
Nobody seems to know the origin of this nickname. We hope for Robbie’s sake, it’s not got anything to do with the Urban Dictionary definition…

Hamish 'Pipes' Hartlett
Have you seen the pipes on this guy? Also known as ‘Hammer’.

Logan 'Texas' Austin
It’s pretty rare to come across someone whose first and last names are both after American cities…Logan’s since been dubbed ‘Texas’ – strictly not to be shortened to ‘Tex’!

Cam 'Fridge' O’Shea
The boys reckon he looks like a fridge. Really.

Darcy 'Hank' Byrne-Jones
The young defender has earned himself the title ‘Hank’ after the bipolar character in Me, Myself and Irene. Relatively shy off the field, when it comes to football he’s been known to get a bit of white line fever!

Kane 'Danger' Mitchell
It’s unusual to assign your own nickname, but Kane Mitchell isn’t known for following the crowd. A die-hard Austin Powers fan, he self-designated the nickname ‘Danger’ after his idol’s middle name.
