Do you remember this old logo?

Well as long as you were around 20 years ago, you probably do.

And like most people ticking around in 1997, you know that Showdowns have been identified by a roman numeral since the very first edition of the Port-Crows derby.

Wind the clock forward 20 years and we're now up to Showdown XLII - No. 42.

Assuming two minor round Showdowns are played every year, by the time 20 more years pass we'll be up to Showdown 82 or LXXXII.

Given that the romans have long since passed, it's probably not a bad idea to let go of using their numbers to label the South Australian derby.

But is it time to ditch it altogether?

After all, the Carlton Mid Derby in the west gets away with corporate sponsorship just fine.

The big rivalries of Victoria don't need a special name to honour their significance.
