Defender Jack Hombsch has signed a contract extension that will see him remain at Port Adelaide until the end of the 2017 season.

Hombsch, 21, arrived at the Power in 2013 after originally being taken as a 17-year-old by the GWS Giants.

He played 24 games last season to take his career tally to 39 and is set to play his 50th AFL game this year.

Port Adelaide senior coach Ken Hinkley told portadelaidefc.com.au Hombsch took his game to a higher level last season and is looking forward to seeing him evolve again in 2015.

“Jack’s form really reflects that of the team, he’s worked really hard on his game and his confidence has grown from there,” Hinkley said.

“He can play on talls or mid-size forwards and become an integral part of our backline structure.”

Hombsch played all three of the Power's finals in 2014 having missed just one game for the season.

An important part of the Power backline, with sound judgement and intercept marking hallmarks of his game, he also won the John McCarthy Award in 2013 for service to the community.
