TWO GOALS to Justin Westhoff in the dying stages of Saturday's AFL Indigenous Round match in Alice Springs helped secure Port Adelaide's ugliest win for the season, marred by a third quarter concussion to Chad Wingard.

In the inaugural premiership season match in Central Australia, the Power lacked its trademark class, run and polish and twice conceded the lead to the Paul Roos-conditioned Demons.

And while it was able to chalk up its ninth win for the season by 20 points, it was the least impressive victory for the Power this year, with the Demons looking like prime candidates for an upset victory until the late stages of the game.

While the Power booted the first four goals of the match, Melbourne controlled the possessions and gave a strong account of the football that has characterised its last month.

But led by captain Travis Boak, whose strong performance after returning from an ankle concern in the first quarter was crucial at key points in the game, the Power was resilient in the face of Melbourne's late game lead and managed to overrun - or outrun - the Demons in the final moments of the match.

It was a testament to the Power's fitness and its mental resilience, having looked lacklustre throughout the day.

Boak finished with 28 touches and 5 clearances, just behind evergreen Kane Cornes who had 30 for the game.

The Power's ability to constrict the Demons when the 'home' side ran forward was also important - Matt Broadbent and Jack Hombsch were among the Power's best for the day, while Jasper Pittard was consistently important in stopping the ball across half back.

Robbie Gray again showed why media pundits consider him a chance for All-Australian selection with two goals and another strong and elusive performance across the ground.

However the Power's inefficiency during the middle of the game left much to be desired, particularly as the Demons were able to smash the visitors in both contested and free ball for most of the afternoon.

The club will await assessments on Wingard and Travis Boak who were the only injured players to emerge from the game.

Port Adelaide's win ensures first spot on the ladder is retained in the leadup to its Round 12 game against St Kilda next Saturday.
