The Port Adelaide Football Club today releases a brand new book aimed at children aged 2-6.

The launch of the storybook, Power Pirateers: Jack and Daisy and the Secret Scroll, encourages children to read and give young families the opportunity to be part of the club's newest junior program.

The Power Pirateers will introduce children to the game of Australian Football through two little pirates - Jack and Daisy - and the teamwork and problem-solving they get up to along their journey.

Power forward Justin Westhoff regularly reads to his children Bodi, 4, and Tully, 2 before bedtime each night.

Port Adelaide has teamed up with The Advertiser and Sunday Mail to make the book available to young readers this weekend.

“I think it’s pretty important … me and [wife] Bec sit down with the kids every night before they go to bed to read them a story,” Westhoff told The Advertiser.

“These books are a great idea from the club because they are fun, engage kids and help them to want to read from a young age while also integrating them into footy.”

Readers can pick up their copy of the first Power Pirateers book for just $3* when they present a token from this weekend’s The Advertiser or Sunday Mail at participating Foodland stores or the Port Store at Queen Street, Alberton.
