PORT Adelaide expects key-position trio Jackson Trengove, Alipate Carlile and Jay Schulz to all return for its round one clash against Carlton on March 16.

Scans on Schulz's sprained foot on Wednesday revealed no serious damage, as suspected by the club after its NAB Challenge game against Essendon on Tuesday night.

Carlile and Trengove both trained on Thursday morning and showed no signs of their respective quad and knee issues.

Trengove even joked that he was the dictionary definition of "flying".

Fellow defender and leadership group member Tom Jonas said that while Schulz should be fit for round one, Trengove and Carlile could both play in the side's practice game against St Kilda at Alberton Oval on March 8.

"Jacko's moving really well out on the track and could be back this week and 'Bobby' (Carlile) is also running pretty well," Jonas said.

"It's obviously exciting, there's a lot of pressure for spots because our young defenders are performing really well.

"Those scans were really positive [for Schulz]… we're sure he'll recover fine, he'll be right for round one."
