Joining Port Adelaide in the 2023 trade period from Geelong, Esava Ratugolea is a strongly-built swingman. Having spent the early stages of his AFL career playing in the forward half before shifting down back, the 28-year-old is an all-round talent who provides valuable versatility to Josh Carr's side.
Ratugolea’s athleticism, excellent read of the ball has and team-first mentality has made him an incredibly strong defender, averaging 3.5 intercept marks per game in 2026 - ranked 'elite' by Champion Data. The defender was enjoying a career-best season before a serious knee injury brought his campaign to an unfortunate early end. He'll look to regain his momentum and attack the 2027 season.
