IT'S always good to get a win over your arch enemy and for us it happened to be our first for the Academy side at Norwood last Thursday.

I was really pleased with the team's output last week, they played a fantastic game on what's a tough deck out at Norwood just a few days after playing against the Roosters.

The Redlegs play their ground really well with their defensive style, so we were all really happy to come away with a win.

Tom Gray has been our captain for a couple of weeks and he got 29 disposals, similar to last week, and was really impressive overall once again.

His tackle pressure was fantastic as well.

Ben Sawford came back from the League trial the week before and had 33 disposals, eight clearances and a team-high six tackles, which is a mighty effort from him.

Generally, the boys all played a really attacking, attractive style of football, which is the way we want to play.

Defensively we were also very good when we didn't have the ball and it was really important that we were able to do that throughout the game.

We're now 1-1 and sitting sixth on the ladder on percentage, so we'll be looking to climb a bit higher again over the next couple of weeks.

The team is gelling really well and the boys know where they're at in terms of the whole team and themselves as individuals.

They know they'll be playing in this team for most of the year and that makes them feel more comfortable about where and how they'll be playing the game.

It's also been good to have a few of our AFL boys come and start building a culture with the Academy boys - things like doing more functions together and spending more time around the place with the Academy squad and the 15 senior-listed players.

The atmosphere is great when you can have our AFL boys who come here from all over the country mixing it with our senior SANFL and Academy players who come from our local areas - it's showing the 'One Club' project is definitely making progress early in the year.

It's says a lot about the whole club culture that these AFL players want to do more for the club and help these kids become better footballers.

Our focus is now on playing well against the Bays this week and there's a chance Danny Butcher will come back from injury and Nathan Krakouer may play his first game for us as well this weekend.

It's getting really competetive for spots on the list, especially with a few AFL blokes likely to come back from injury in Garry's team this weekend, so it's really important all the boys play consistently well to hold their place.

It's hard to change a team when you do have a win, but when you have quality guys coming back into your side it's hard to fit everyone in and some will miss out - that's just the nature of football.

Both Garry and I are excited about our first home game double-header at Alberton Oval this weekend.

Playing our old enemies Glenelg has a lot of significance for our club when you consider some of the great battles we had in the '80s with Jack Cahill coaching the Maggies and Graham Cornes with the Tigers.

It's a fantastic challenge for both our sides.

The League will be up against a former Power player in Nick Stevens who's now coaching the Bays and he'll probably have a few tricks that he wants to bring.

Their League side lost their first game like ours did in Round 1 and their reserves team narrowly went down too, so we're expecting a pretty determined opposition in both matches.

But if we play well both defensively and offensively we're confident we can come away with the result we want.

Hope to see you at Alberton!
