ANGUS Monfries will await the results of scans on Tuesday to determine the extent of the hamstring injury he suffered against North Melbourne on Sunday.

Monfries injured himself chasing a loose ball near the goal square in the third quarter and needed assistance to exit the field, eventually being substituted from the game.

High performance manager Darren Burgess confirmed Monfries would have scans on Tuesday which will give clarity into the grading of the injury.

“Obviously Angus had to be helped from the ground and was subbed from the match, so there’s the potential for some seriousness, but we’ll need to wait and see what the scan results come back with,” Burgess told portadelaidefc.com.au.

Forward Jay Schulz (foot) and Chad Wingard (ankle) both left the ground during the game, with Schulz managing to return to the action during the second half.

Both will be assessed ahead of Port Adelaide’s Saturday game against the Brisbane Lions.

Softening the loss of Monfries and injuries to the two forwards will be the return of Lewis Stevenson, Ben Newton and Andrew Moore.

Moore was shaping as a likely first 22 player during the pre-season before being hampered by AC Joint injury before Round 1.

Injuries not to blame for loss: Hinkley

Newton will be free to play after suffering a concussion in the club’s final SANFL trial game against North Adelaide two Fridays ago, while Stevenson has recovered from a toe injury.

Jarrad Redden and Campbell Heath’s conservative rehabilitation continues, with the pair still up to a month away from a return.

Injured rookie Sam Russell and tall forward Mason Shaw are at least six weeks away from full recovery.

Meanwhile Danny Butcher will look to play his first SANFL game of the year when the Magpies play Glenelg at Alberton on Sunday afternoon.

Butcher has been recovering from an ankle injury for several weeks.

Jake Johansen is still at least five weeks away from a prospective return from a broken hand sustained against North Adelaide during the pre-season.
