POWER defender Jackson Trengove underwent surgery on a high ankle sprain on Wednesday evening and is expected to miss between five and six weeks in rehabilitation.

Trengove had scans to the sprain earlier in the week and saw a specialist on Wednesday afternoon, where it was advised he undergo surgery to the injury sustained in the second quarter against the Crows last Sunday.

Port Adelaide’s senior coach Ken Hinkley confirmed the successful operation on AFL360 on Wednesday night, with the club’s head of high performance Darren Burgess telling portadelaidefc.com.au the centre half-back could miss over a month.

“It’s very disappointing news for Jackson, but his scan results showed up worse than we were hoping and the specialist recommended he undergo surgery late this afternoon,” Burgess said.

“Unfortunately he’s looks as though going to miss over a month.

“We’re hoping he’ll be back in 5-6 weeks, but we’ll obviously be in a better position to make a call on his return as we get closer to the end of his rehab.

“We’ve had a ‘no-risk’ policy on injuries this year, and we’ll make sure both are managed properly through the process.”

It follows confirmation fellow backman Alipate Carlile would miss 2-3 weeks with a minor hamstring strain.
