TOM JONAS is likely to be named in Port Adelaide’s AFL Second Preliminary Final side despite suffering a corked hip against Fremantle last Saturday.

Jonas was substituted from the Power’s 22-point win over Fremantle after suffering a cork that blunted his ability to compete.

But the club’s head of high performance Darren Burgess expects Jonas to bounce back on the track this week.

“Tommy’s corkie was enough to make the call on the sub, we felt he wouldn’t be able to compete as we would have needed him to for the rest of the game,” Burgess told portadelaidefc.com.au.

“But we’re really positive about his outlook for this week, we’d expect him to get through training and put his hand up for selection again on Thursday.”

The likely availability of Jonas is a huge bonus for a Port Adelaide side that saw the full participation of Matt White in the weekend’s semi final victory, having been cleared for action after suffering a minor jaw crack in the elimination final a fortnight ago.

John Butcher is also a chance to play for the club in the SANFL Grand Final against Norwood on Sunday as he continues to recover from a back injury.

Butcher tweeted on Sunday while watching his teammates claim a comeback 20-point win over South that he was doing everything possible to be declared fit.

Angus Bruggemann and Henry Slattery will be assessed at training during the week to recover from shoulder concerns, Bruggemann’s injury coming from a knock in a ruck contest in Sunday’s win over South.
