THURSDAY’s omitted players have key areas to develop away from the AFL arena, but there are enough signs to show they have a future at AFL level.

Nathan Krakouer and Sam Colquhoun were notable exclusions from the Power’s team to play Collingwood at the Adelaide Oval, while sub Andrew Moore was also sent back to the state league.

While Krakouer (two goals and 18 disposals) and Colquhoun (22 disposals) had significant gains on the stats sheet against Sydney, senior coach Ken Hinkley says the pair have key areas to work on.

He loves what they’re capable of, but the duo will be benefit from working on several important parts of their game in the SANFL.

“What Krak does with the ball can be very good - a real positive at times,” Hinkley told portadelaidefc.com.au on Thursday.

SELECTION: Power v Pies

“But we need to run him pretty hard, and his ability to recover and reset in games hurts us and also his ability to have a real consistent and complete impact over four quarters.

“That’s one thing we really want from him.

“Sam’s had three games back, won a bit of outside ball, but it’s his ability to handle inside pressure that we want to see him develop and show consistently.

“Both of them have a positive future with us, but we know and they know they need to develop these aspects of their game.”

Out of form Tom Jonas and injured Alipate Carlile were known omissions this morning, while final omission Andrew Moore requires a full game in the SANFL this weekend.

PREVIEW: Power v Pies

“It’s actually important that players get a full game in, and for Moorey he had a week off during the bye and was sub last week, so we need him to get a full run,” Hinkley said.

“He hasn’t had the complete impact we’d like him to have, and also the impact when coming on as sub.”

The inclusion of talented younger players gives the likes of Karl Amon and Tom Clurey the chance to have a go at AFL level, while Jake Neade and Cam O’Shea bring senior experience after several solid weeks in the SANFL.

Jackson Trengove comes into the Power after being a late withdrawal against Sydney with the flu last week.
