PORT ADELAIDE wishes to congratulate Charlee Hodges for her elevation into the Adelaide Thunderbirds squad of 10 for this season’s Super Netball competition.

Charlee is the daughter of Magpies great Scott Hodges.

She was to be a Training Partner for the Thunderbirds in 2018, but the promising youngster has been promoted as a temporary injury replacement.

Adelaide Thunderbirds coach Dan Ryan said Charlee, who played two games for the T-Birds in 2017, has taken a giant leap forward during this year’s pre-season.

Along with great speed, Ryan said the 20-year-old’s best attribute is her attitude.

“She’s hungry for success and she loves the contest,” he said.

“There’s something special about Charlee and I’m looking forward to seeing her take the next step.”

Keep kicking those goals scotty!

Charlee’s father Scott won eight premierships with the Magpies, was twice best and fairest and was club leading goal kicker on five occasions.

Scott won the Magarey Medal in 1990 as well as claiming three Ken Farmer Medals as the SANFL’s leading goal kicker.

Charlee Hodges is also the granddaughter of Port Adelaide great John Cahill who won four Premierships and four best and fairests with the Magpies before coaching the club to ten SANFL Premierships.

Cahill was also Port Adelaide’s inaugural AFL coach.

Charlee isn’t the only Thunderbird with a link to Port Adelaide either.

She joins the daughter of another Port Adelaide champion, Gia Abernethy at the netball franchise.

Abernethy – a 2018 Training Partner who saw plenty of game time last season – is the daughter of seven-time Premiership player Bruce Abernethy.

The Adelaide Thunderbirds 2018 season begins at home on Sunday, April 29 against West Coast Fever.
