PORT ADELAIDE forward Charlie Dixon was recognised by the coaches with a maximum 10 votes in the 2018 SHADFORTH FINANCIAL GROUP AFLCA CHAMPION PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD after the Power’s win over the Western Bulldogs on Sunday.

Dixon booted five goals to go with 14 disposals and five marks, as well as two tackles and four one-percenters in his best game of the season.

Dixon’s teammate Jared Polec was awarded eight votes after racking up 32 disposals, one mark, six clearances, and two tackles.

He also had three rebound 50s and six inside 50s in a game where his run, carry and ability to gain distance with his long kicking was vital.

Port’s Chad Wingard and Darcy Byrne-Jones also polled three and one vote respectively.

Former Power player Jackson Trengove was given five votes after he had 22 touches including 18 contested possessions to go with 28 hit-outs, 10 clearances, five tackles and two goals.

His Bulldogs teammates Josh Dunkley (2 votes) and Jackson Macrae (1 vote) received the remaining coaches’ votes.

Along with Dixon, Patrick Cripps (Carlton), Ben Cunnington (North Melbourne), Brodie Grundy (Collingwood), Tom Hawkins (Geelong) and Tom Mitchell (Hawthorn) all received the maximum 10 votes from the AFL coaches for Round 19.

The latest votes see Carlton’s Cripps and Hawthorn’s Mitchell close in on Melbourne’s Max Gawn at the top of the leaderboard with a gap now building to the next best Shaun Higgins of North Melbourne.
