SHOULDER surgery will sideline Jackson Trengove from the remainder of the 2015 season.

The 24-year-old backman went under the knife to mend an injured right shoulder, which has been a persistent issue for several weeks.

INJURIES: Carlile also put on ice

While players are able to play through shoulder injuries, the Power determined Trengove would not be able to continue managing the problem.

Port's head of high performance Darren Burgess said a 'shift' in the shoulder against the Giants last Saturday was cause for concern.

TRENGOVE: We need to play tough footy

“It’s just got to the point where it has to be done and we always take a long term view on what is best for the player,” Burgess said.

“It came out at the end of the Bulldogs game and it actually shifted in the first quarter against Greater Western Sydney.

“Also the concern is that it happens in the first contact of the game and you’re down a player straight away.”

His surgery comes after Ollie Wines was forced into rehab for a similar problem after his shoulder dislocated against St Kilda three weekends ago.

Trengove will be in a sling for six weeks, but should be able to resume on the track in time for the start of pre-season and in full contact by Christmas.
