AS Port Adelaide prepares to face Essendon at Etihad Stadium in Round 4 of the 2018 AFL season, portadelaidefc.com.au takes a look back on a memorable recent clash between the sides.

Etihad Stadium at Docklands hasn’t always been a happy hunting ground for the Power, but in Round 17, 2015 the result went the right way.

It had been five years since the Power had won against Essendon at Etihad and it seemed the trend might continue after the Bombers were extremely accurate in the first quarter.

Ruckman Matthew Lobbe was dominant in the centre and his midfield, led by Travis Boak (28 disposals and two goals), Robbie Gray (21 disposals and one goal) and Ollie Wines (25 touches), fired at important times.

Playing against his old side for the first time, Paddy Ryder booted four goals including three in the final term, playing primarily in the forward line alongside Jay Schulz and Chad Wingard who booted three each.

Jake Neade kicked two of his own, including a contender for goal of the year, after crumbing a ball which spilled from a marking contest, dodging and dancing between three Bombers and coolly slotting home.

Ultimately the Power overran the Bombers to record a memorable 13-point win.
