THREE-TIME club best and fairest Robbie Gray is among a trio of Port Adelaide players to agree to terms on a contract extension with the club.
Gray will enter a 16th AFL season in 2022 after agreeing to a new one-year deal.
The 33-year-old boasts an impressive resume filled with accolades including his three John Cahill Medals, four All-Australian selections and a record five Showdown Medals.
The Port Adelaide life member was taken by the club with pick 55 in the 2006 AFL National Draft and has gone on to play 255 games so far, including 18 in 2021.
His 353 goals make him the second highest goal scorer for Port Adelaide in the AFL, behind only Warren Tredrea, while he is second only to Travis Boak for Brownlow Medal votes received by a Port Adelaide player.
Port Adelaide List Manager Jason Cripps said Gray continued to play an important role for the club on and off the field.
“Robbie has been remarkably consistent for a long period of time and he continues to be capable of things that many others aren’t,” Cripps said.
“His experience has proven invaluable in terms of the development of our younger players and we’re pleased to have him remain at the club for another season.”
Along with Gray, defenders Riley Bonner and Martin Frederick have also agreed to terms on new deals tying them to the club for two years and one year respectively.
At 24, Bonner has played 65 games so far including 14 in 2021 where he averaged 20 disposals and 413 metres gained.
The 37th pick in the 2015 draft, Bonner was a Rising Star nominee in 2018 and his raking left foot kick continues to be a highlight of his game.
Frederick made his AFL debut in 2021 and played eight games in all.
The 21-year-old arrived at Alberton in the 2018 rookie draft as a product of the club’s Next Generation Academy.
Renowned for his speed and ability to run and carry the ball, Frederick will continue to excite Port Adelaide fans in 2022.
“Riley’s back half of the season was particularly strong, culminating in a stand-out performance in the preliminary final,” Cripps said.
“He has shown an ability to play various roles in 2021 and we expect that versatility to benefit our side going forward.
“Marty worked hard on his game in the pre-season and was rewarded with his AFL debut in Round 6.
“He is an exciting young player with an ability to play in the backline or on the wing and we look forward to his ongoing development.”
