Brett Montgomery will move from a defensive line coach to midfield coach replacing the recently departed Jarrad Schofield.

Port Adelaide has finalised its senior coaching panel for 2022.

Port Adelaide assistant coach Brett Montgomery will move from a defensive line coach to midfield coach replacing the recently departed Jarrad Schofield.

Montgomery will receive support from new appointment Luke Kelly as an assistant midfield coach. Kelly joins the club from the GWS GIANTS having worked previously at the Western Bulldogs as a performance analyst.

Development coach Chad Cornes has been promoted to replace Montgomery as defensive line coach, while Nathan Bassett remains as forwards’ coach.

Port Adelaide GM – Football Chris Davies says the club is very pleased with the coaching structure under senior coach Ken Hinkley.

“From a midfield coaching perspective we are excited with the balance of having Brett Montgomery supported by Luke Kelly,” Davies said.

“Brett is now a very experienced assistant coach with an astute tactical and technical perspective of the game. And we are delighted that Luke has decided to join us from the GIANTS to support Brett as a midfield development coach.

“Luke brings with him a background in analysis and worked with the Western Bulldogs in their premiership year in 2016, followed by the last three seasons at the GIANTS. Luke was awarded the prestigious Phil Walsh scholarship in 2020 as the industry’s best emerging development coach and this season was promoted as coach of the GIANTS VFL side.

“As a club, we welcome Luke and we are very enthused with the point of difference he will bring to our coaching group.

“Likewise, we are excited to promote Chad Cornes as defensive coach. It was a position he filled at the GIANTS and of course many Port Adelaide supporters would fondly recall him as a premiership key defender on field. And we look forward to Nathan Bassett continuing to work with our forward group, including new recruit Jeremy Finlayson.”

Chad Cornes has been promoted to replace Montgomery as defensive line coach.

Matthew Lokan will continue as Port Adelaide’s SANFL League coach, whilst also working as a forwards’ development coach within the AFL coaching group. Tyson Goldsack will continue in his role as defensive development coach.
