Port Adelaide has secured North Adelaide midfielder Hugh Jackson with the 55th pick in the NAB AFL National Draft on Thursday night.
Port Adelaide completed a trade with Carlton to get hold of pick 55, sending a future fourth round selection to the Blues.
Jackson has impressed at Under 18 level with the Roosters, averaging 29.3 disposals and showing an ability to play in the centre or on the wing.
The classy left footer grew up supporting Port Adelaide from his home in South Australia’s mid-north.
He joins a quartet of draftees heading to Alberton after Port Adelaide also recruited Sandringham speedster Josh Sinn (Pick 12), ruckman Dante Visentini (Pick 56) and father-son talent Jase Burgoyne (Pick 60) over the two-night event.
AFL Talent Ambassador Kevin Sheehan says:
Classy midfielder capable of playing on the inside or outside using his elite kicking on his preferred left side together with his clean hands and footy smarts. He draws comparisons to GWS Giant star Josh Kelly. Has had an outstanding year at under-18s level, averaging 29.3 disposals at 70 per cent efficiency and 4.8 clearances with 3.4 tackles at club level in 16 games. He also had 20 possessions against Western Australia at state under-19 level for South Australia in August. A hip injury stopped him from testing at the NAB AFL Draft Combine in South Australia.
