PORT ADELAIDE will welcome back some experience as it aims for its first win of the SANFL season when it takes on South Adelaide today at Alberton Oval.

The Magpies welcome back Sam Skinner from the AFL side, Taj Schofield from injury and Kane Farrell after nine months out with an ACL injury.

Coach Matthew Lokan said it’s a credit to the left-footer to get back in what is usually a year-long lay-off.

“It's a huge story and a massive credit to him and the work that he's put in over the last nine months,” he said.

“He had a pretty bad knee reconstruction nine months ago and to be back playing in that time is a huge credit to the work that he's put in.”

Port will also add Nick Moore into the side after he missed the season opener through health and safety protocols, a game Lokan said was lost ‘around the contest’.

“It's an important game for us obviously coming off a loss last week,” he said.

“It's important to get back to Alberton and be competitive.

Kane Farrell returns to football for the first time since rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament last July.

“I think that was the biggest thing came out last week, we probably lost the game around the contest, and we know what we need to do to be able to improve it and I think we could do that quickly.

“We just need to be tougher and stronger around the contest for longer.

“Adelaide outworked us last week and the good thing is it's only round one and we've got to rectify pretty quick and good way is to do it against South at Alberton.”

South had a thrilling win over Central District at Noarlunga last week, and Lokan has noted how competitive it has been in recent seasons.

“They had pretty commanding lead for the first three quarters and then Centrals come back,” he said.

“They've added some players, they've had to big turnover of players since last year and they've added some guys that have been on AFL lists back into their squad.

“They're going to be really competitive, they've been a competitive side now for the last few years and we know we're in for a tough challenge on Saturday afternoon.”

Action gets underway at 2.10pm.
