PORT ADELAIDE has three All-Australians for the first time since 2020, giving the club the equal most selections in the 2023 side, with midfielders Zak Butters and Connor Rozee joining defender Dan Houston in the final line-up announced on Wednesday night.

Butters’ maiden All-Australian blazer capped a remarkable night in which he also collected the AFL Coaches’ Association AFL Champion Player of the Year Award and the AFL Players’ Association’s Robert Rose Most Courageous Award.

The 22-year-old had previously been part of the preliminary 40-man squad named in 2020 but missed the final cut.

After shifting into the midfield permanently, Butters has gone from strength to strength in 2023, averaging career-best numbers for disposals (27.5 per game), marks (five), clearances (4.6), and ranks elite for score assists and score involvements this season.

Rozee earned his second consecutive All-Australian nod after averaging a career-high 26 disposals, five tackles and 3.7 clearances per game in 2023.

The 23-year-old has also booted 20 goals in his 23 games so far this season.

Like Butters, Houston was picked in the All-Australian side for the first time, a reward for his consistency and the damage he is able to cause off half back.

Port Adelaide teammates are always looking to get the ball in his hands and it is no wonder when he ranks elite for average disposals (23.3 per game), tackles (3.3) and metres gained (473.5).

The last time Port Adelaide had three players picked as All-Australians was in 2020 when Travis Boak, Charlie Dixon and Darcy Byrne-Jones were included.

Minor premiers Collingwood joined Port Adelaide with the most players selected in 2023 All-Australian squad, with three nominations, while GWS Giants skipper Toby Greene was named captain of the side and Bulldogs leader Marcus Bontempelli his deputy.

The official 2023 All-Australian selection panel is made up of Gillon McLachlan (chairperson), Kevin Bartlett, Eddie Betts, Jude Bolton, Nathan Buckley, Kane Cornes, Andrew Dillon, Glen Jakovich, Laura Kane, Cameron Ling and Matthew Pavlich.

The panel selected a squad of 44 announced on Monday night before settling on the final 22 announced at the AFL Awards on Wednesday night.
