The Port Adelaide Football Club congratulates AFLW champion and former club captain Erin Phillips OAM on becoming an inductee into the Australian Football Hall of Fame.
Port Adelaide chief executive Matthew Richardson lauded Phillips for an extraordinary career that has rightfully earned recognition on Australian football’s highest individual honour board.
"The club is very proud to see Erin Phillips elevated into the Australian Football Hall of Fame," Mr Richardson said.
“Erin’s drive and professionalism has seen her become one of Australia’s greatest athletes.
“Her role as captain of our club in the first two seasons of our AFLW journey was incredibly important in shaping the culture and expectations for Port Adelaide and we’re starting to see the benefits of this impact emerge already in this team.
"Erin’s remarkable 66-game AFLW career included three premierships, two league best and fairest medals, and three All-Australian selections, establishing her as one of the most decorated players in women's football.
"Before switching to football at age 31, Erin had already achieved extraordinary success in basketball, including two WNBA championships, Olympic silver, Commonwealth Games gold, and World Cup medals.
"We thank Erin for her contribution to not only our club, but to Australian sport in general.
"This honour caps off a remarkable sporting career that she and her family should be forever proud of."
Erin joins her champion father Greg Phillips in the Australian Football Hall of Fame, becoming the first father-daughter duo to achieve this extraordinary feat.
“Erin grew up at Alberton Oval following her heroes at Port Adelaide, including her champion father Greg who was an eight-time premiership player at the club.
"Erin and Greg have made history as the first father and daughter duo to be inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame - a testament to the Phillips family's incredible contribution to Australian football.”
After winning three AFLW premierships at the Adelaide Crows, Phillips was recruited to Port Adelaide in 2022, becoming the club's inaugural AFLW captain and finishing runner-up in the best and fairest count in her first season.
In 2023, she became just the 12th AFLW player to reach 1000 career disposals before retiring following Port Adelaide's final game of the season.
