Port Adelaide is proud to announce AFLW star Amelie Borg as a finalist for the prestigious 2025 Tom Hafey Heart of Football Award, presented by Variety – the Children’s Charity.

Named in honour of AFL legend Tom Hafey, the award celebrates players who have shown exceptional commitment to supporting children through selfless actions and community leadership over the past 12 months.

Borg earned her nomination through her passion and dedication in delivering the Empowered program to more than 1,000 young women across South Australia.

Run by the club’s not-for-profit arm, Power Community Limited, Empowered breaks down gender stereotypes, promotes gender equality, and fosters leadership through tailored workshops in secondary schools.

In 2025, Borg championed regional access by ensuring communities like Mount Gambier are included, while also contributing to the Empowering Women Leadership event, where she spoke on how sport can drive social change.

A committed mentor to her teammates and a strong leader in her role as co-vice-captain, Borg also inspired others to extend the program’s reach through peer-led delivery, using her platform to advocate for equity and education.

The only AFLW player named a finalist, Borg joins an esteemed list alongside AFL stars Jeremy Cameron, Callan Ward, and Tom Liberatore.

On being named a finalist, Borg said it was an honour.

“It’s an honour to be nominated for the Tom Hafey Heart of Football Award,” Borg said.

“Delivering the Empowered program has been incredibly rewarding. I’m passionate about promoting gender equality and breaking down barriers and stereotypes for young women.

“Having a program that harnesses the power of sport and the influence of athletes to create opportunities and drive change is something I’m really proud to be part of.

“To be named a finalist alongside players like Jeremy Cameron, Callan Ward and Tom Liberatore is truly humbling. The work they do in the community is inspiring, and I’m equally proud of the amazing team at Power Community Limited who make the program possible.”
