Port Adelaide acting captain Zak Butters has had his charge dismissed following an appeal hearing.

Last Tuesday, the AFL Tribunal ordered Butters pay a $1500 fine for "using abusive and insulting language towards an umpire" during the Round 5 game against St Kilda.

On Monday, the AFL Appeals Board quashed the case following the appeal, thanks to the evidence presented by Port Adelaide's legal team, led by Paul Ehrlich KC.

Mr Ehrlich argued the Tribunal process was compromised and constituted a miscarriage and an error of law.

While Port Adelaide welcomes the dismissal of this matter, the club maintains its position that the Tribunal process needs to be reviewed.

The club nor the AFL will seek a re-hearing.
