Port Adelaide has chosen ruck Alex van Wyk with pick 14 in Tuesday night’s Telstra AFL mid-season rookie draft.
Selected out of North Adelaide’s SANFL program, van Wyk has played all seven games at senior level this year, averaging 23 hitouts, 8.6 disposals and 2.4 marks.
Prior to joining the Roosters, the 21-year-old won back-to-back best and fairest awards for Norwood’s reserves side and has represented South Australia at under 18 and under 20 levels.
The 203-centimetre big man has good game awareness and has continued developing his ruck craft at SANFL level over the past two seasons.
“Alex has made the most of his opportunity to lead the ruck at North Adelaide and shown the drive to improve all elements of his game,” National Recruiting Manager Geoff Parker said.
"We believe he will continue to improve in a full time AFL environment."
Van Wyk is Port Adelaide’s second pick in the mid-season rookie draft, joining Xavier Bamert.
Previously, Port Adelaide has chosen Cam Sutcliffe (2019), Jed McEntee (2021), Brynn Teakle (2022), Quinton Narkle (2023), Logan Evans (2024), Mani Liddy, Ewan Mackinlay and Harrison Ramm (2025) in the mid-season rookie draft.
