Port Adelaide has welcomed former West Coast midfielder Emily Elkington to the club as an injury replacement player ahead of the 2026 NAB AFLW season. 

Elkington joins the Power following the decision to move Caitlin Wendland to the inactive list allowing the forward to continue her rehabilitation from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament. 

Wendland has made strong progress throughout her rehabilitation but will now focus solely on her recovery through an intensive training block, with her return to full health the priority. 

Standing at 157cm, Elkington made her AFLW debut for West Coast in 2023 after being selected with Pick 22 in the 2022 AFLW Draft, going on to play five games for the Eagles. 

Known as an exciting small forward, she’s a fierce competitor with an ability to use the ball effectively.  

Averaging nine tackles per game at the 2022 AFLW Under-18 Championships, she was widely regarded as one of the best kicks in her draft class. 

Head of AFLW Dan Merrett said the club would continue to support Wendland throughout her recovery, while welcoming the opportunity to add Elkington to the AFLW program. 

“Caitlin has approached every stage of her rehabilitation with professionalism and determination,” Merrett said. 

“We’ll continue to support her every step of the way and look forward to seeing her back out on the track when the time is right. 

“At the same time, we’re excited to welcome Emily to the club. She’s a highly competitive player who uses the ball well and brings great intensity around the contest. 

“We think she has some exciting attributes that will complement our midfield and forward group, and while we’re disappointed for Caitlin, this presents Emily with a fantastic opportunity. 

“We’re looking forward to seeing what she can produce at Alberton.”
