Aliir Aliir will play his 200th AFL game this Saturday night, as Port Adelaide makes four changes to take on Melbourne. 

Aliir’s story is one of incredible resilience, and on Saturday, he will become the first South Sudanese footballer to reach the 200-game milestone. 

Born in a Kenyan refugee camp and immigrating to Australia as a child, Aliir later became the first player with Sudanese heritage to be picked in the national draft, and the second to be on an AFL list, after Majak Daw. 

The key defender was named All-Australian in 2021, in his first year at the Power, and is on track for consideration for a second blazer in 2026. 

Saturday night’s game will see the return of Joe Richards following a month off with a broken finger, as well as Mitch Georgiades and Xavier Bamert who both missed Round 22 with illness. 

Lachie Jones has also been named after missing a week with a groin concern and last weekend’s debutant Alex van Wyk retains his place in the 23. 

Darcy Byrne-Jones comes out of the side to serve a one-match suspension, while Jackson Mead, Christian Moraes and Will Lorenz have been omitted. 

The Power last played the Demons in Round 14 last year at Adelaide Oval with the Power winning by 25 points. 

Saturday’s game will begin at 7:40pm Adelaide time, and the match will be broadcast live to SA on Channel 7, Fox Footy and Kayo.
