Port Adelaide veteran Ollie Wines has signed on for another year, taking him into a 15th season of AFL football.

With 300 games in sight, the 2021 Brownlow Medallist will continue his career in 2027, as a much-admired player and leader across the league.

Arriving at Alberton following the 2012 national draft, Wines was taken from the Bendigo Pioneers at pick seven.

He later went on to co-captain the Power in 2019 and served as vice-captain for five years, either side of his year as skipper.

The 31-year-old has been a consistent and composed presence throughout his tenure at Port Adelaide, earning a John Cahill Medal and an All-Australian blazer in his Brownlow year.

His form in 2026 has been strong, averaging 21.8 disposals, 9.2 contested possessions and 3.4 clearances from 19 games.

“I am thrilled to be signing on for another season,” Wines said.

“Watching the level of young talent coming through this club makes me excited for the direction we are heading.

“There have been times over the past couple of years where I wasn’t sure if I would play on, but I feel like I have a renewed energy and an enthusiasm and can’t wait to see what next year holds.

“I’m really proud to be a Port Adelaide player for another season.”

Echuca product Wines has made Adelaide home along with partner Olivia, with the pair welcoming their first child, a son named Leo, last October.

Port Adelaide list manager Jason Cripps was pleased Wines made the decision to play on.

“Ollie has been a significant part of the club for a long time,” he said.

“The value he adds as a leader and a person can’t be underestimated, especially the influence he can have toward the young players on our list.

“Ollie’s ability to support our young leaders on and off the field is so important and his calmness and composure under pressure is a testament to the person he is.”

Wines’ commitment comes following a flurry of signings over the past month including spearhead Mitch Georgiades and experienced defender Lachie Jones.
