Woodville-West Torrens midfielder Jack Cook has signed with Port Adelaide to play for its SANFL side in 2027.

Cook comes in under the league’s list rules that allow AFL clubs to sign up to six local players aged 21 and under from other SANFL clubs, as part of a talent development list.

Having played 28 league games for the Eagles including 21 in 2026, Cook featured in all three finals this season, averaging 17.3 disposals, 3.6 marks and three tackles for the year.

Impressively, the 19-year-old was awarded the McCallum Tomkins Medal as the best and fairest player for the entire under 18s competition in 2025, after playing just nine games at the level.

He was rewarded for his form with a SANFL debut in 2025, and went on to make seven SANFL appearances that year.

Cook came through the junior system at the Port District Football Club before progressing into the Woodville-West Torrens talent pathway.

Port Adelaide head of development and SANFL head coach Heath Younie was pleased to welcome Cook to Alberton.

“Jack is a strong ball winner with good foot skills, strong defensive accountability and the ability to play through the midfield or across half-back,” Younie said.

“He has demonstrated leadership qualities throughout his junior career as co-vice-captain of the SA under 18s side and he’s played some high quality SANFL football already in his young career.

“We’re grateful to the Eagles for working with us and allowing Jack the opportunity to train in an AFL environment and play for our SANFL side.”

Cook said he was excited for the chance to play football within an AFL environment.

“With Heath (Younie) coming to Port Adelaide, I felt like it would be great for my development to play under him.

“Hopefully I’ll get a lot of the AFL pre-season in and can learn under AFL coaches. If I can have a solid pre-season, I feel like I can have a good season next year.

“I’m really looking forward to meeting all the boys and playing for the Magpies in 2027.”

In other list news, Rome Burgoyne will return to Woodville-West Torrens after two seasons with the Magpies.

“Rome has been a great addition to Port Adelaide through the talent development list,” head of SANFL Paul Stewart said.

“We have enjoyed watching his development within the program over the past two years and wish him all the best with his football back at the Eagles.”
