Port Adelaide defender Teagan Germech has signed a three-year contract extension, committing to the club until the end of the 2030 AFLW season.

The 24-year-old has enjoyed a breakout 2026 campaign, establishing herself as one of the Power’s most important players in defence with her athleticism, versatility and ability to compete against the competition’s strongest forwards.

Germech produced a club-record 16 intercept possessions in Port Adelaide’s Round 1 clash with Fremantle, also collecting 19 disposals in an impressive performance that highlighted her growing influence at the defensive end of the ground.

Having made her AFLW debut in 2023, Germech has played 43 games at the elite level and quickly become a mainstay in Port Adelaide’s line-up since joining the club ahead of the 2024 season.

A former elite netballer, Germech began her AFLW career with the Giants, where she played seven games as an injury replacement player after spending time as a train-on player with Sydney.

It has been at Alberton, however, where Germech has found her place as a key defender, combining strong one-on-one ability with the athleticism to intercept opposition attacks and launch Port Adelaide’s rebound from defence.

Germech said she was excited to continue her journey at Alberton and build on the progress she had made since joining the club.

“I’ve loved my time at Port Adelaide and feel like I’ve continued to grow as a player and as a person since joining the club,” Germech said.

“We have a great group here, and I’m excited about what we’re building. We’ve got a refreshed game style under Glenn, and it’s been amazing to see that come to life, particularly over the past few weeks.

“We’re supported by an incredible group of coaches and staff, and I feel really at home here. We also have the best fans in the league, and there’s nothing better than running out at Alberton.

“Port took a chance on me as an injury replacement player a few years ago, and I can’t thank the club enough for the opportunities it has given me.

“I’m really looking forward to continuing to contribute to the team, helping us achieve success in the years ahead and remaining a Port player long term.”

Head of AFLW Dan Merrett said Germech’s development into one of the side’s most reliable defenders made her long-term commitment an exciting outcome for the club.

“Teagan has continued to develop her game and has shown just how important she can be to our defensive group,” Merrett said.

“She brings great athleticism and competitiveness, and her ability to take on some of the competition’s best key forwards while also providing us with rebound is a real strength.

“Teagan is a consummate professional who is driven to improve every day. She’s an incredibly important part of our program, and we’re thrilled she has committed her future to Port Adelaide until 2030.”

“We’re excited to see what she can achieve in the years ahead and are pleased she has committed her future to Port Adelaide.”

Germech’s extension adds to a strong run of contract news for Port Adelaide’s AFLW program, with Ella Heads and Matilda Scholz also committed until the end of 2030, Shineah Goody signing a further three-year deal and Ash Woodland extending until the end of 2029.

Experienced trio Ebony O’Dea, Cheyenne Hammond and Maria Moloney have also signed one-year extensions, providing further continuity as the Power continue to build their list for the seasons ahead.
