Port Adelaide senior coach Glenn Strachan has emphasised the importance of building consistency and further embedding the side’s game style as the Power prepare to face Collingwood under lights at Alberton on Friday night.

Speaking to the media following Captain’s Run, Strachan also discussed the belief building within the playing group, several senior players committing to the club long-term, and Sachi Syme’s quadricep injury, which will sideline her this week.

He also reflected on the impact of captain Justine Mules-Robinson, who will play her final home game at Alberton following her retirement announcement earlier this week.

Tickets are still available, with fans encouraged to get along and farewell the captain in her final game at Alberton. Children under the age of 14 attend free.

Strachan on Sachi Syme’s quadricep injury
“It's unfortunate for her. She obviously came back and was playing a pretty good game, and then just copped that corky, and it got a little bit worse the days after. Fortunately, she's okay. Big picture is that she's all right and avoided any surgery. So whilst it's unlucky for her, I feel confident that she's okay now and she's on the mend, which is nice.”

“It's probably not a decision that we kind of had to make or have made (playing her through the injury). To be honest, it's something we knew she wouldn't get up for this week, and it's probably more likely a two-plus week injury. So, it probably yeah hasn't changed our minds on anything so far, whether or not finals happen, we're just kind of playing it as it is at the moment.”

Strachan on preparing for Collingwood
“We’ve had a focus on the consistency that we've been building on. Although we didn't get the result against Brisbane, we got some nice looks on our offense, and 39 inside 50s is a good place to start. It's taking some more of those opportunities. So, Friday night is just another chance for us to go after what we're trying to.”

“Because we have gone week to week, nothing's changed from our end. Whether or not finals happen, I know it looks unlikely, but there's still a mathematical chance, and that's all you need is a chance. I think if anything, it's just embedded the fact that we go week by week and keep working on our game model and what we're trying to embed.”

Strachan on captain Justine Mules-Robinson’s final home game, after announcing her retirement
“I think it's always nice to send somebody off that's been a big part of your club with a win. Justine did talk about the fact she's still got two games to go rather than the one home game. I'm sure that this week will be a really good experience, and if we can get the win, not just for her, but for everybody, it'll be nice.”

Strachan on Teagan Germech signing a contract extension until 2030
“Teagan is an amazing player, but she's just such a great individual and a really good teammate, which I thoroughly enjoy, and I know that like her teammates do as well. To sign her through to 2030, and it’s one of quite a few longer-term contracts that we've got now, that's really good for the group, the program and the club. It’s super exciting for Teags, and hopefully she can continue her form into the back end of the year too.”

Strachan on the long-term contracts and the belief that builds in the program
“I think it's a great show of faith from the players, and I think it's testament to what we're trying to build here as a club. For players that have played really good footy to commit longer term, I think it's really exciting. I think the club loves it, and hopefully the fans love being able to see these players through 2030. I hope that they stay much longer than even what those contracts are.”

Strachan on Indy Tahau’s recovery and future
“I think that players' moving are part of team sport, but all I know is that Indy's back in the building now after her surgery, and she's attacking it really well. I'm confident that Indy will make the right decision for her, and I really hope that’s here at Port Adelaide.”

Strachan on building belief in the remaining two games of the season
“I think that's probably the most important thing for us is that belief, because we are embedding something different. We’ve had ten chances at embedding that so far and if we can keep building on that, and the players can see what we're trying to get after and their roles in it, then I think that'll just help us as we get to the off season and then into next season.”

Strachan on reviewing the program’s pre-season preparation
“We won Round 1, so I feel like we did start pretty well. We obviously went to Freo in Perth, who are a finals contention team and played really strongly. I don't think it's something we would yeah look at straight away. I think we'd continue to look at how do we win games at any part of the year, and if it's in the early part, that's great, and hopefully that sets your season up. But I think we were two from three at the start of the year, so yeah, it's probably not something on the top of my list right now.”
