AARON YOUNG has found a new home on the Gold Coast after being traded to the Suns.

Young becomes a Sun in return for the future fourth-round selection Gold Coast received as part of its trade for former Crow Harrison Wigg.

Port Adelaide List Manager Jason Cripps wished the 24-year-old the best for the next stage of his career.

“Aaron showed in 2016 what a damaging player he can be, but outside that season hasn’t played AFL football as consistently as he would have liked,” Cripps said.

“Understandably he’s seeking more senior opportunity. Gold Coast is able to offer that and although we see Aaron as a valuable member of our squad we wouldn’t stand in his way.”

Young says he can’t wait to get stuck into pre-season on the Gold Coast but is grateful for his seven years spent at Alberton.

“Port Adelaide was so welcoming when I came over from Melbourne as a teenager,” he said.

“I’ve had so many good times with my teammates, my coaches, the admin staff, the fans, Dad’s Army … I leave with great memories.

“But on the other hand the Suns have offered me a great opportunity which I plan to make the most of, both for myself and the Gold Coast Footy Club.”

Port Adelaide selected Young with pick 36 in the 2010 National Draft. He made his debut in Round 5, 2012 and leaves Alberton having played 76 AFL games.
