PORT ADELAIDE star Robbie Gray is excited for the club to bring in more quality young talent in this year’s NAB AFL Draft in November.

The Power has three top 30 draft selections this year, and Gray says it fills him with confidence about the future at Alberton.

“I’ve got an amazing amount of confidence within our group,” Gray told reporters at The Fellow Barber, where he was launching a Movember campaign.

“While we didn’t play finals this year, we are confident we can get consistent seasons out of our senior guys, and we saw with the young guys that came in, they had a significant impact.

“We think we have a good mix. We will hit the draft, and pick up some really good players there again.

“Hopefully we can continue to grow.”

The 31-year-old said he has seen some impressive performances from last year’s draft crop, and he has faith the recruiting staff will continue to improve Port’s list.

“The recruiters spend an enormous amount of hours on it,” Gray said.

“I have spent a little bit of time looking at some vision – it should be a pretty strong draft.

“We have three picks in the top 30, so we should do pretty well. Jackson Mead is a father/son prospect for us.

“Hopefully something can get done there but that will depend on how it plays out on draft night.

“The SA talent has been pretty strong in the last few years – we picked up Connor (Rozee) last year, so I’m sure there will be some talented players from SA drafted again this year.”

Heading into his 14th season at Alberton – and the club’s 150th year celebration – Gray is keen to have a big impact in 2020.

“I think I can definitely play better footy than I did this year,” he said.

“I really battled a bit in the first half of the year, and then got going a little bit in the second half of the season.

“I’m always thinking I can keep improving and get better. I’m looking forward to getting back into training and having a big summer.

“I want to have a really big season, in what’s a big year for the club.”
