PORT ADELAIDE will open its AFL Premiership Season on the Gold Coast when it takes on the Suns.

The AFL has released the fixture for Round 1 of the season which opens with the traditional Richmond and Carlton game at the MCG on Thursday 19 March.

Port Adelaide’s season opener will be played at Metricon Stadium on Saturday 21 March at 6:25pm local time (6:55pm ACDT).

It’ll be the first time the Power plays a Round 1 game against the Suns.

Port Adelaide has a strong head-to-head record against Gold Coast, winning its last ten encounters including two in Shanghai.

The Power’s only loss came when the sides met for the first time at Football Park back in 2011.

Port Adelaide supporters can already prepare to travel to Shanghai for the side’s game against St Kilda on May 31 but will have to wait until Thursday for the rest of the fixture.
