Robbie Gray will line up in the 'Big V' for the State of Origin Bushfire Relief game.

NEXT Friday night’s State of Origin Bushfire Relief game will be another opportunity for Port Adelaide star Robbie Gray to assist the community who have been affected by devastating fires this summer.

Earlier this year, Gray, teammate Travis Boak and Western Bulldog Marcus Bontempelli were inspired to run a free clinic and signing session for families in East Gippsland who were impacted by bushfires.

The four-time All-Australian - along with Port Adelaide ruckman Scott Lycett - will play in the State of Origin clash on Friday 28 February at Marvel Stadium, and he is hoping to raise as much money as possible for those in need.

“Anything we can do to help out, I was keen to put my hand up and do anything I could,” Gray said on Adelaide radio on Wednesday morning.

“I’m from East Gippsland, so (the fires in Victoria) were sort of close to my family. It’s been a really tough time and it will be good to get out there next week and raise a lot of money.

“There have been some fantastic things go on around the country and all over the world to give a little back.”

The 31-year-old has been involved in the league for 14 years, but the excitement to play with some the competition’s best players is still there for the veteran.

“You watch a lot of these guys from afar,” Gray said.

“I got to know Bonti (Marcus Bontempelli) a little bit when he came up for the visit in the country. I’ve always liked the way he’s gone about it, so pretty keen to play alongside him.

“Dusty is a player who a lot of people will look forward to playing with - I’m sure he’ll go well.

“There is so much quality all over the ground in both teams. Hopefully it’s a really good night. To be involved is certainly an honour.”

Gray is disappointed he won’t line-up with great mate Boak for Victoria next Friday night, but knows the former skipper is building nicely for a big 2020 season.

“He’s on the comeback trail from the shoulder injury,” he said.

“He played on Friday night but he’s slowly building.

“I would’ve loved to have played with Trav. We’ve been here the whole journey together and both from back in Victoria.

“It’s disappointing he’s not playing, but I’m sure it will be a great night.”

Both squads will train at Marvel Stadium on Thursday 27 February before the following night’s double-header, starting with Collingwood v Melbourne in round 4 of the AFLW followed by the State of Origin clash.

Victoria v All Stars will be broadcast on Channel Seven, Fox Footy, the AFL Live Official App, Kayo and various radio partners.

Money raised from the star-powered game will be contributed to a Community Relief Fund set-up by the AFL to help rebuild football facilities ripped apart by the national bushfire crisis.

The AFL ($1.35m) - in association with the clubs ($900,000) and AFL Players Association ($250,000) – have committed a $2.5million donation.

A total of $1million will provide immediate emergency assistance through the Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery fund. An additional $1.5million will kickstart the Community Relief Fund for grassroots facilities.

Tickets to attend the game can be purchased through Ticketmaster.
