PORT ADELAIDE ruckman Scott Lycett chatted to the media on Wednesday afternoon after being selected in the Bushfire Relief game.

Here are the key takeaways from Lycett’s press conference:

Lycett on his selection for next Friday night:

“It’s an honour to be a part of it.

“I got the tap on the shoulder from Kenny and I was pretty surprised to be involved with such an elite group of players.

“At the end of the day, it’s about raising much-needed funds for some people in need. If I can be a part of that then I will try and do my bit for sure.

Lycett on the competitiveness of the match:

“I think we will probably try and have a little bit of a hit-out, but at the same time have some fun as well.

“I think the people there will want to see the game’s best at their best, and I’m sure there will be stages of the game where people will take it pretty serious.

“Hopefully everyone can have some fun and it will be good for people to watch.

Lycett on training with Pete Ladhams and Sam Mayes

“It’s been good - I enjoy it.

“If you get comfortable at AFL level you get found out. We’ve all been training really well and haven’t missed too much training.

“I love the competition. If you don’t have the competition and people driving you to be better then you’re probably going to get stuck.

Lycett on his desire to lead Port’s ruck in 2020:

"I obviously want to be the no. 1 ruck and I've been training as much as I can and as best as I can to lead the club throughout the season.

"I've had a few opportunities to be the no. 1 ruck here at Port and I like I've played some pretty good games last year.

"I haven't had too much opportunity throughout my career to be No.1, but I've shown in stages when I have, that I've done it pretty well.

Lycett on looking forward:

“I’m not really looking at the past.

“If I dwell on the past then I’m going nowhere. I’m really excited for the future.

“This year is a massive year for the club. We’ve got 150 years coming up - and I know every year you want to strive for a premiership but this year is special.

“Hopefully we can do something special.

Lycett on learning from your mistakes:

"I've just taken that my best footy is good enough and I've just got to do it every week.

"If I'm playing my best footy, then hopefully other guys come with me.

"You've got to learn not just from your mistakes, but from everything, especially in footy.

"As soon as you stop learning, stop growing, then you get stuck and you probably stay down in the twos.

Lycett on whether he and Peter Ladhams can play in the same team:

"We'll probably get more of an opportunity this year.

“I can see us both playing in the same team and if we're both playing good footy, then there's no reason we can't be in the team.

Lycett on the AFLs new concussion ruling:

“We will have to wait and see until we get the testing done.

“The AFL are trying to protect the players, so I have no issue with that.

“We used to get testing done on Wednesday and now it’s Monday or something like that.

“If you need an extra week off and it’s going to help you later in life, I don’t see any issue with it. Players’ health is the main priority.
